Mirror project

I found this mirror on the side of the road within an old farm shop  a couple of month back.. it was cute - but kind of falling to pieces - there were a couple of bits and pieces hanging off... and after a quick check for wood worm - I thought  'thank you very much - I'll have that please' for a grand total of £7.00.

I knew that if I fell out of love for it - I knew someone who would fall very quickly in love with it. I had being looking for a little project to try  out some of this.. Annie Sloan paint...

I had heard mixed reviews about it - but the though of not having to sand or prime what I was going to paint - was just too much of a temptation to let pass.. so I found a little shop in Reigate that stocked it .. and for the grande total of £24.00 I got a tin of paint and a tin of wax .
I opted for the the colour Versailles- I thought if it all goes horribly wrong -I can just paint over it again .

And to be honest it was really simple - 2 coats of paint - straight on there .. and one coat of wax - brushed that on quickly and then buffed it up .. total time 1.5 hours .. and to be honest I think I am quite happy with the results ..

The colours are very true and the chalky feel is lovely .. I think probably next time - I will venture more into the distressed look and get myself a darker wax for an older feel .. Have any of you out there tries this Annie Sloan Paint ?...

Ps - sorry for the close up shots .. but I know that there are piles of washing and all kinds of things lurking in all corners of this room ...

Beautiful new arrivals

Howdy all ...

The last couple of months have seen some beautiful new fabrics arrive with us at the shop. One of my favourites is definitely the Happy collection from Hilco textiles. The weight and feel of this cotton is fantastic - perfect for making a special dress for a little one. The fabric is wide at 150cm and the cotton is  Okotex standard 100 . Perfect if you are worried about harmful nasties. If you need any inspiration for these prints simply pop over to  Susanne's blog 'hamburger liebe - here

Another batch  pretty cool retro inspired prints is this fun-k-y bye - bye birdy collection from Windham fabrics ... swing out sister - this collection is so COOL.. vinyl, bakelite phones and jivers ...curtains, blinds or simple cushions for your camper would look fab in any of these prints.

Artist trading card swap

I recently got involved involved in the artist trading card swap organised by the fabulous Ali @ very berry handmade.  After seeing her beautiful examples of stitching I thought hey - I can do that.. and quickly signed up.
Textile ATC swap button
To be honest I have never being much of a beautiful stitcher or embroider .. I went to a catholic school run by nuns and hours were spent stitching and unstitching stitches .. that were too big .. too small ... too unstitch like and to be honest I was completely put off the decorative stitching .. but I wanted to get involved

The rules were simple

Your ATC must be 6.4cm by 8.9cm  (2.5″ by 3.5″), but you can use the card in either portrait or landscape orientation. Don’t make the card too thick though – no more than 3-4mm (1/8″) please.
The ATC must be predominantly textile, but you can use any techniques that you want to try, e.g. embroidery, patchwork, beading, cross-stitch, fusing fabrics, colouring fabrics, using fabric paints or ink stamps. There’s masses to choose from – I’m going to do some blog posts about different ideas in the next couple of weeks, but in the mean time, here’s an intro to fabric ATCS and here’s some Flickr inspiration.
The back of the ATC needs to include, at the very least, your name and the date. It is also preferable to include your email address, and, if you have given the ATC a title, you can include this too.

The front of my card... I screen printed the spill of thread onto the linen.. then stitching along the edge and sitting it on a little pile of fabric .

It all went feel for me ... except I totally I forgot my email address and  the date ... but hey ho.
I was dying to pop in some token fabric from my swapper person ... but we were to keep it plain and simple .
I have to say I totally enjoyed it and having a deadline in which to send it was good for me .. as things tend to drag on and on ... and you never seem to finish anything

The back of my Card ..

The beautiful Card that I received ... thank you Alix Mc Loughlin
